How can you sell on partial if you're not a published author already? Can someone explain?

Anonymous, it's really one of those things which is a rare, cosmic alignment of the stars -- er, the project, the author, the editor, and the market.

Marley had written several compelte manuscripts prior to this, and Deidre actually signed her on a different completed manuscript, so she knew that marley was an excellent writer who could deliver a fabulous product. Her proposal is exceptionally strong (I know I was lucky enough to read it) and the publisher was super-receptive to her and the project. this is rare.

I sold my first book on a partial as well, but I must warn you that this kind of sitaution is extremely rare, and usually sending unfinished projects to agents will result in "lovely. Can I see the rest?" results. I knwo this because since I sold last April, not two weeks goes by that someone doesn't ask me how to sell on partial, and then attempt it and get this response.

Back to the party. MARLEY, I'm POSITIVELY GIDDY!!!!!

I said it another loop. I'm embarrassed by my lack of writing talent here, because I have no words to describe HOW HAPPY I AM FOR YOU, MARLEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs and chocolate and champagne! I can't wait to celebrate with you!

This is Marley's party. You don't get there by sheer luck. There's hard work behind the scenes.
It's like that question:
"How does it feel to be an overnight success?"

You kind of smile and say its wonderful to be the so-called overnight success.

But success doesn't just turn up on the doorstep without a lot of hard work, rejection, ups, downs, ins and outs.

Congratulations Marley, you deserve it!
