Breast Cancer 3-Day

A cause that is very near and dear to our hearts at TKA is breast cancer awareness. Two years ago, TKA participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-day walk as a group, and during the event were privileged to meet a tremendous amount of remarkable people. Some were breast cancer survivors; others simply knew or loved someone who had suffered from the disease. Everyone felt linked by a common cause – fighting for a cure.

Recently, we heard about an amazing woman, Judy Vail, who was 26 years old when diagnosed with breast cancer. Now 40 and cancer-free, she felt compelled to participate in the 3-Day walk. Hailing from a small, rural South Carolina community, she was faced with extreme difficulty in her fundraising efforts. Though she works in the local school system, she was denied the request to collect donations there. The school said the money was being raised for "personal reasons," and therefore against policy. She pressed onward and determinedly made it to the event. Judy finished the 60 mile walk alone, crossing the finish line with an injured leg and wrapped knee.

Unfortunately, in the end, she has only raised about half the amount needed. If Judy falls short of the minimum $2200.00, she must self-donate the remainder. The Knight Agency was honored to be able to make a donation to Judy Vail. If you are as touched by her story as we were, please consider visiting her 3-Day webpage and making a donation. Any little bit helps -- no matter how small. When asked why she participated in the event, despite fundraising issues, Judy said she remembered how frightening her battle was as a young woman and wanted to support others who faced that same difficult path.
