AWARDS, PUBLICITY AND AUCTIONS… OH MY!
Another week almost done, and I am posting earlier than usual on a Friday because I have a birthday party for one of my girls tonight. We’ve had another energized week here at the agency, with much of our focus going to the big auction we held yesterday for Diana Peterfreund’s CONFESSIONS OF A (SECRET) SOCIETY GIRL, a smart, explosively comedic novel that our agency signed on just nine days ago. Diana is an author I’ve been watching for a while, and less than an hour after receiving this proposal, I offered representation. She had nailed the voice—the humor was terrific—
and all around the material made for a tremendous read.
We sent out to a good list of houses that would be appropriate for a “young” chick lit novel like this one—and immediately received interest from nearly every house where I submitted the material. In the end, auction day brought six bidders to the table, and at the very end of the day (grin) we made our deal with the wonderful Kerri Buckley at Bantam Dell. They plan to publish (most likely) middle of next year, and everyone there came on board with a great deal of enthusiasm. Bantam Dell has a reputation for discovering and publishing bestselling authors, and I know they’ll bring a great deal of verve and inventiveness to the publishing program they create for Diana. Now, Matthew Snyder at CAA is shopping out the film rights to Hollywood, and so our fingers are crossed for even more exciting news in the coming days!
Here’s how Michael Cader reported the deal in www.publishersmarketplace.com:

In other client news, our authors seem to be racking up the award nominations right now. Here are a few of the recent kudos agency clients have received:
**Jennifer St. Giles and Leigh Wyndfield have each been nominated for the Holt Medallion for Best First Book.
**Robin Owens has been nominated for the PRISM for Best Fantasy
**Leigh Wyndfield has been nominated for the PRISM for Best Erotica/Romantica
**Jennifer St. Giles’s THE MISTRESS OF TREVALYN has received nominations for National Readers Choice for Best First Book And Best Historical.
**And, of course, both Karen Marie Moning and Amanda McCabe are nominated for the RITA this year!
Last tidbit of news, our agent in the Los Angeles office, Nephele Tempest, recently gave an interview to www.mediabistro.com. There’s a wonderful front page article called, “Pitching the Agent” that features The Knight Agency. Maybe we should give them a TKA pin?
Onward and upward…

Yeah, when are those TKA pins coming? They are *so* secret society, and besides, I bet they go marvelously with pink!
~Diana, off to do the patented Gena Showalter "This is the Best Day Ever" dance.
Congrats on the awesome job you did for Diana!! She certainly deserves all of this success for the hard work she's put in over the years. Kudos to both of you!!!
Marley = )
I'm thinking about the pins... Could be fun for RWA! Deidre
Congrats to you and Diana on such a terrific deal!! I'm so happy for her! This is such a great example of an author who learned her craft, paid her dues, stuck to her guns, and had it pay off big time!
