I don't believe I have yet had a chance to introduce the contest's host, Jonathan Friesen, yet to our blog readers, and I'm honored to be in a position to do so now. Jonathan's debut novel JERK, CALIFORNIA will be hitting stores this fall. The novel center's around a teenage boy dealing with Tourette's syndrome and the life-changing road trip he takes to California in search of a truth and answers to questions which will inevitably shake him to the core of his being.

2008 Reclaim the Name Writing Contest For Teens & Young Adults
Debut young adult author Jonathan Friesen is hosting a once in a lifetime opportunity on his website for young authors across the globe. The prizes available through this promotion are top-notch for any youth looking to get their foot in the door in this business at an early age.

Jonathan's debut novel JERK, CALIFORNIA will be hitting stores this fall. The book is Amazing (and yes, that is amazing with a capital A!). I received an advanced galley last week and Jonathan's writing has kept me captivated. The prose is beautiful and the plot is fast paced and enriching. Even more insightful and intriquing are the glimpses into the Tourette's syndrome (TS). Jonathan himself has TS and his personal experiences offer not only an intimate knowledge to the disease, but also an unparalleled authentic voice to the books hero.

Myself and my children have been looking forward to this book since I first read the announcement about it on PW. What a generous effort by an accomplished and creative man!
I volunteered at a Special Ed High School in Los Angeles for many years. We had several students with Tourette's Syndrome and Asperger's Syndrome, ADD and ADHD and most were highly gifted students. The talent these kids had was amazing. My daughter is a math teacher there, I'm sure we'll both be buying Jonathan Freisen's book. Thanks so much for the information.
What a marvelous opportunity for gifted young writers. Jonathan ROCKS for hosting this contest and I applaud him for writing JERK, CALIFORNIA and showing us how it is to live with a disability. We should all understand the difficulties and processes a person undergoes while dealing with a challenge. Jonathan has a great voice for showing readers the way.
