Harlequin's 2008 Report Card & Things that make you go hmmmm...
Publisher's Weekly posted an article yesterday about revenue at Harlequin rising 2.2% and operating profit increasing 11.2% in 2008. Hopefully, this stalwart publisher will continue to weather the storm well. It's great to hear some good news from the front lines!
While fighting my way through the blog jungle this morning, I stumbled across this thought provoking video on Books, Boys, Buzz. Definitely something that will make you go hmmmm...
Marley, thanks for the video!

Wow! That was fascinating!
I've seen that video before. The scary thing is, it is true. The U.S. has the greatest illiteracy rate of all industrialized countries in the world (hence, the Why Johnny Can't Read campaign of sometime ago and the current No Child Left Behind Act of more recent years). Fortunately, I believe that is changing. Our children have to be educated enough to compete in the global marketplace and that's not going to happen until both Johnny and Jane are indeed educated to the level of those in foreign countries.
Just clicked on the video and it says the video is no longer available.
I am really glad to hear Harlequin is doing well! I am a Harlequin Presents fan and belong to a yahoo group for fans. A few of the members have been complaining about the types of heroines and titles. I've suspected that Harlequin was doing just fine since they increased the number of releases per month.
Fascinating, but kind of scary video, huh?
Hummm...
