Nite, nite

I'm now having chocolate-covered marshmallows (my friend Jacquie D'Alessandro's favorite) and champagne (everybody's favorite). Jennifer St. Giles ate lobster today, so she's in a butter-induced coma. And it's Wednesday. I'm sure I should be doing something more productive, but...naaahhh.

Normally, I'd be driving the dance or gymnastics carpool, doing laundry and making dinner. Instead I'm indulging ridiculously and perpetuating the myth that romance writers are wealthy, wear feather boas and eat bon bons all day while writing sex-driven formulaic fiction.

Make no mistake: writing is hard work. We sweat, bleed and cry over the words on the page that, we hope, readers enjoy. The story means more than the paycheck, the payoff of a reader telling us they connected with our characters is priceless. So, breaks are good (this is my often self-serving, but effective justification). And champagne is great for toasting bestsellers (both of my buds are USA Today bestselling authors). But sharing with friends, especially writer friends, is vital. We renew and energize each other with our upcoming releases and talk each other through plots that make no sense and editorial revisions that feel like you're yanking out your tonsils minus anesthesia.

Renewing and celebrating is good. So, I'm grateful for my odd day out. I hope you enjoyed it, too.

Wendy, authors are my most favorite people on the planet.:D What a great support system flows from writer to writer. No wonder authors make it; they are never alone.

Chocolate covered marshmallows and champagne sound delish!!!

Hugs, JJ
