Be Nice to me Hal! Chat Rescheduled

"I'm sorry Julie, Rose. I can't do that."

Boy, could this picture not be more perfect about the way I feel right now (well replace typewriter with laptop). After troubleshooting our problems getting Rose Hilliard into the chat room every which way from Sunday, we finally had to reschedule our session. Keep on the sunny side though! We will get her in there, and if you were going to miss the chat today, you have another opportunity! Close a door and open a window, right?

I welcome you to post any solutions you have had in getting into the chat (if you have had such a problem). I have tried firefox, java update, security settings, & IE updating.

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding! Just more time to think up more questions and find a way to get to the chat during work! Muhahaha!

Is it some firewall they have where she was trying to log in from?

(who knows just enough to get into trouble, but not always enough to actually solve problems)

I got right in, no problem. She might check to see if her Java is outdated. I had that problem a while back and had to do an update.

I sure hope I'm available for the rescheduled chat.

That's too bad the chat didn't happen, but since I missed it (stupid firewalls at work), maybe I can make it to the next one.

Sorry the chat didn't work but I can't make it during the day anyway. I am always at work, from 8-4, then 5-9. So daytime chats just don't work for me. Darn it!

Hope you get things straightened out and everyone enjoys the chat. Will it be on the blog? I can read it later. :-)

Hate that I missed it, too, but maybe I'll be off work on the day it's rescheduled.

The first time I logged in to a TKA chat I couldn't get in until I updated my Java.

Off-topic: The blog header says the Knight Agency specializes in both fiction and non-fiction. distinct from what? What else is there? Might it make more sense to say that the agency handles both fiction and non-fiction (while specializing in neither)?

If Ms. Hilliard is trying to access the chat from work and getting an "Error Connecting. Please try again" message, then more than likely it's the firewall.

Her IT folks should be able to fix it fairly quickly. All they need to do is open up port 8005. Depending on the firewall software they're using, they may also need to know it's on server 1 at

I had this problem and did a bit of nosing around to find the solution. ;-)

Also--and this goes for anyone having issues at home, not specifically Ms. Hilliard--if you have a DSL modem, then you'll want to check if it has a built-in firewall. More than likely, it can be turned off/modified using the software it came with.

The only reason I mention that last is that I changed my firewall settings, STILL couldn't log on to the chatroom and had a DUH! moment wondering if the stupid modem had a firewall. Guess reading the instruction manual 2 years ago finally paid off. :0p
